Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn quickly became a fan-favorite version of the character when she was featured in the 2016 film Suicide Squad. Returning to the big screen with Birds of Prey, this time, Quinn will be leading a team of badass women. With the group set in taking on Black Mask, what does Harley Quinn have up her sleeves?

In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Birds of Prey director Cathy Yan talked about her plans in exploring the character. "I think there's such a duality in Harley Quinn, even in just the blue and the pink," she said. The director pointed out that both sides, Dr. Harleen Quinzel and Harley Quinn, are still there. "She's still very much the smart doctor she once was," Yan added. "She's still capable of armchair diagnosing anyone--we say that's part of her superpower."

However, despite her strength and duality, Yan also pointed out that Harley can still be "easily manipulated." She has a "really low self-esteem" as well as the issues Joker "really brought out in her" too.

"So I think this is a great opportunity to explore the woman behind Harley Quinn, and explore that duality" Yan continued. The director is "definitely" planning on diving deeper into the antihero's "psyche."

It's certainly interesting to see how Yan will approach Quinn's character and how she would be able to show her distinction between Joker and the outcome of their relationship.

Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) will also feature the likes of Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya, Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, and Ewan McGregor as Black Mask. The movie is slated for release on February 7, 2020
