One of the things that fans have admired since the first teaser for Birds of Prey was released was the costume designs, especially the comic-accurate ones for Black Canary and Huntress. The anti-heroines are sporting a cool and edgy style in the upcoming movie and fans can't wait to see the all-female ensemble in action.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, costume designer Erin Benach shares some details with regards to her approach in incorporating this style into the characters' costumes. "In my dreamiest of dreams, what would I want me and a gang of girlfriends to wear to kick butt?" she said.

"I had never seen that before, that level of understanding of the fashion zeitgeist in a superhero film," says director Cathy Yan, praising Benach's work. She says it's an "interesting" way to speak to women without actually being "overt." "Just saying, ‘We got you,' you know?" Yan added.

One of the outfits that fans adore is Black Canary's mesh dress, which was a nod to the character's trademark fishnets. Benach says she "literally" designed it on Jurnee Smollett-Bell.

Benach wanted to embrace Harley Quinn's "punk-rock anarchy sort of vibe" which is why the character ditched the "J" pendant and instead, she'll be wearing some chunky chains in the movie. "She might have taken caution tape away from some sort of crime scene, chopped it up herself, and made this," Benach added, referring to Quinn's DIY jacket.

The outfits are indeed colorful and quite unconventional, which is a pretty good representation of Harley Quinn's heightened and bright point of view of the world post-breakup.
