Avengers Star Samuel L. Jackson Fanboys Over Star Wars: A New Hope As He Recalls Getting Mace Windu Gig

Samuel L. Jackson couldn't help but fanboy over Star Wars in a recent interview.

The actor, who played the role of fan-favorite Mace Windu in the prequels, recalled in an appearance on 60 Minutes seeing A New Hope in theaters. He remembers "everybody smoking weed" as they watched the first film in what would become a cultural phenomenon.

Jackson recalled being so fascinated seeing hyperspace in action as well as an "intergalactic bar," where "there's all these different kinds of things that people have never seen before." Upon seeing different creatures in the iconic Cantina scene in the first Star Wars movie, he knew. "Oh, this is the kind of movie I wanna be in," he said, saying that he watched the rest of the trilogy films.

The Captain Marvel actor then went on to talk about how his wish to be in Star Wars was fulfilled after "an opportunity presented itself" and Lucasfilm reached out to him. He met with George Lucas at The Ranch, where the Star Wars creator asked him what he wanted to do in the franchise.

He responded that he would be happy playing a Stormtrooper. Putting the white helmet on and appearing on screen in a Star Wars movie even though no one will recognize him because of the costume was already enough for him.

That's why when it was revealed he will play a Jedi, he couldn't believe it. He was so excited putting on the Jedi robe for the first time. When he was asked to choose his lightsaber helm, he couldn't contain his happiness. "I was gone at that point," he recalled.

After he's settled in to the Star Wars role, the next thing he wanted to make sure of is for Mace Windu to make it to the final film in the prequel trilogy, which he of course managed to do. Watch the interview below.

Jackson has expressed his excitement to reprise his role in new Star Wars films. This has sadly not come to pass yet, even though fans are totally behind the idea.

I guess the tricky part is explaining how the Star Wars fan-favorite survived his fate in Revenge of the Sith. Then again, if Darth Maul survived being cut in half and a horrible fall, being hit by Force lightning and falling off a building shouldn't keep Mace Windu from coming back right?
