Ever since the Nova Corps was introduced in Guardians of the Galaxy back in 2014, fans have been eager to see Nova's big-screen debut. There were early plans for Richard Rider to appear in Avengers: Infinity War but were ultimately scrapped. Now, writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely explain why.

During ComicBook.com's recent Quarantine Watch Party for Infinity War, the writers were asked why they didn't introduce the character despite his origin already perfectly set up. To which McFeely wrote, "It was an early idea, but we just reached a critical mass of new characters." Nova's debut in the Marvel film wouldn't have made that much sense after they "got rid of the Xandar sequence."

Rider would have served the purpose of crashing down to Earth, bringing with him the warning about Thanos' plans in retrieving the Infinity Stones. Since the movie is essentially saying goodbye to the heroes, introducing a new character in Infinity War wouldn't be that great of a setting.

They also addressed this topic in a previous interview, pointing out that while it would have been "amazing" to finally see Nova in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the last two Avengers films are focused on saying goodbye to the characters that fans already know.

So while it might have been a good way to introduce Nova to the MCU, it is understandable as to why the writers and directors didn't go through with it. Nonetheless, Marvel fans are still enthusiastic about Nova's big-screen debut. Though it'll likely take a while before that happens, the fan-favorite character's debut wouldn't be in vain.
