Jude Law’s In Negotiations To Play Mar-Vell In Captain Marvel

It looks like Marvel's trying to bring in Jude Law to play the male lead in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's very first female-led superhero movie, Captain Marvel.

Sources have told Variety that The Talented Mr. Ripley star is currently in negotiations to play Doctor Walter Lawson, otherwise known as Mar-Vell, the Kree Hero who was the original Captain Marvel in the comics. According to the publication's report, Lawson's going to serve as Carol Danvers' (Brie Larson) mentor as the United States Air Force member-turned-superhero in Captain Marvel.

Marvel hasn't let out that much information about the film just yet, but during this year's San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said that the superhero movie would be set in the 90s before the Avengers started assembling. It will also feature the Skrulls, shapeshifting aliens who rule an empire that serves as the Kree's rival.

Marvel star Samuel L. Jackson is also expected to appear in the film to reprise his role as Nick Fury along with Larson and (possibly) Law.

Law's really on a roll. The British star just recently joined the Harry Potter franchise, signing in on Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald as the film's young Albus Dumbledore.

Captain Marvel starts production next year and is slated for release on March 8, 2019.
