Joss Whedon Reveals Why He'll Never Revive Firefly or Buffy

Last month, Fox Broadcasting President of Entertainment David Madden said that the studio would be open to bringing back Firefly if Joss Whedon is involved. This gave fans of the short-lived franchise hope that it would return, but Whedon himself just crushed our dreams in a recent interview, saying he's not a fan of reviving a classic.

"You bring something back, and even if it's exactly as good as it was, the experience can't be," Whedon told THR. "You've already experienced it, and part of what was great was going through it for the first time. You have to meet expectations and adjust it for the climate, which is not easy.

"Luckily most of my actors still look wonderful, but I'm not worried about them being creaky. I'm more worried about me being creaky as a storyteller. You don't want that feeling that you should have left before the encore. I don't rule it out, but I fear that."

Whedon expressed his opposition against Hollywood's hunger for revivals, saying that it's time to "move on" and "create new things for [other] people to try to reboot".

"There's a lot of head-scratchers," he added. "I'm sure they'll be rebooting According to Jimsoon. Is the nostalgia bank so goddamn secure that we can just keep withdrawing from it?"

I agree with Whedon. Hollywood needs to bring fresher ideas and more original stories instead of rebooting old franchises.
