Josh Trank's Cancelled Star Wars Film was About Boba Fett

The hiring and subsequent departure of Chronicle director Josh Trank was one of the stranger moments of the new era of Star Wars films. He was announced to direct the second standalone Star Wars film in June 2014, but he left to pursue other "original creative opportunities" in May 2015. His appearance was cancelled at Star Wars Celebration and there were controversial rumors about his experience filming Fantastic Four for Fox, but nobody knows what exactly happened. Trank even blamed the studio for the superhero film's negative reviews.

It wasn't officially revealed what Trank's project was about, but we've heard rumors saying that's it's focused on Boba Fett before. Entertainment Weekly confirmed those rumors, revealing that Trank was actually working on a Boba Fett movie. However, there is no confirmation if Lucasfilm is still pursuing the project. EW also reports that Lucasfilm even prepared a teaser for fans at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim 2015.

Trank's Boba Fett project was ultimately replaced on the film slate with Phil Lord and Chris Miller's untitled Han Solo film.

As for the future of the Star Wars franchise, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy is not ready to reveal what's beyond Star Wars: Episode IX yet.

"There are [possible movies] that we have been talking a lot about. But we are planning to sit down in January, since we will have had The Force Awakens released, now Rogue One, and we've finished shooting Episode VIII. We have enough information where we can step back a little bit and say, What are we doing? What do we feel is exciting? And what are some of the things we want to explore?"
