John Boyega’s Finn Gets The Cool Lines While Rey Gets “All The Stress of Life”

Things are a little bit different for John Boyega's Finn in Rian Johnson's Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Back in The Force Awakens, the stormtrooper-turned-resistance-fighter had been filled with doubt and fear, but this time, now that Finn's set to go on missions in the film's highly anticipated sequel, the character finally settles in to his new life with the Resistance.

Speaking in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Boyega discussed about how it felt to come back to the galaxy far, far away, especially now that Finn's become a Star Wars sequel trilogy staple.

"The second one was like coming home in a strange way going through a weird déjà vu, but this time you're more comfortable…You're settled in your character and you're ready to go, but it was definitely different because now you're known as Finn and there's Rey and you're just part of the culture in a strange way."

Though Finn will be sent out to go on missions for The Resistance, Boyega admits that his character's going to have the better parts of The Last Jedi, saying that while Daisy Ridley's Rey is busy "handling all the stress of life," he gets to do all the cool things while having fun.

"During the auditions I found that my niche for this character was definitely in the more humor and fear. So he just represents us in the film — just finally having a Star Wars character that goes, ‘This is really dangerous.' Finn is a part of myself, just magnified a tad. And it was fun to do that. It was just hilarious because while Rey is handling all the stress of life, I get to just run around and do all the cool stuff and say all the cool lines and have fun."

Johnson did say before that despite its overarching darkness, The Last Jedi would have its light moments, and it seems like Finn might be involved in most of them. The director had pinned the Canto Bight "Cantina" scene as one of the more humorous moments in the film – and guess who gets to be in it? Fancy pants rich aliens, Finn and Kelly Marie Tran's Rose Tico. Good for him, really.

We just wonder whether his "cool lines" are going to stand the test of time as much as Harrison Ford's Han Solo did. Still, never tell me the odds.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits cinemas December 15, 2017.
