John Boyega Debunks Popular Star Wars: The Last Jedi Fan Theory

Finn (John Boyega) might not really be a Force user, but ever since the stormtrooper-turned-Resistance-fighter was introduced in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, fans have been wondering whether Lucasfilm might eventually reveal that the character's actually an undiscovered Jedi.

Now, in an interview with the Digital Spy, the Star Wars actor dismisses the theory, saying that the franchise usually only has one person as a Jedi, and with Rey (Daisy Ridley) filling up the role, that leaves a whole lot less Jedi potential for Finn.

"Would I like to be a Jedi? I think it would be more interesting if they had more than one person be a Jedi. But I think that that is one of the unspoken laws of Star Wars. They only have one who has to go away and train."

Still, that doesn't mean that Finn can't be a hero, and Boyega highlights the fact that there are a lot of stronger characters in the franchise that aren't necessarily Jedi.

"I hope it takes an interesting turn; not in terms of being a Jedi. But there are loads more stronger characters in the Star Wars universe that can go up against Jedi and they don't necessarily have to be a Jedi. I would like to explore that more; the whole Boba Fett vibe. I would like to explore that for Finn, but who knows?"

Boyega's right. Sure the Star Wars franchise might be a Skywalker saga, but the galaxy far, far away has a lot of great characters that aren't all Jedi.

Watch Boyega reprise his role as Finn when Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits cinemas on December 15, 2017.
