Joe Russo Explains Why Thanos Goes Into Avengers: Infinity War Without Armor

Avengers: Infinity War might feature the biggest battle in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it seems like Josh Brolin's Thanos is confident enough to fight without his armor in the highly anticipated superhero mash-up movie.

Fans who've been in the Marvel Studios panels at Disney's D23 and San Diego Comic Con have all noticed Thanos casual look in the Avengers: Infinity War preview and though posters given to the Comic Con attendees shows Thanos powered by the Infinity Gauntlet, it's strange to see the Mad Titan underestimating his opponents and going without armor.

Now, in a recent interview with IGN, Infinity War director Joe Russo explains why Thanos is walking into battle without his armor, saying that the Titan has decided to take a "more casual approach" in the movie.

"[Thanos] has a more casual approach in this film, and it's very philosophical for him. It's part of his character definition. It's a spiritual journey for him to collect the Stones, and one with which he doesn't need armor. Once he starts acquiring the Stones, he doesn't need armor in the same way he did when he was a war lord. It's a very symbolic costume."

It sounds like a quite a surprise that Thanos would decide to go casual in Infinity War especially with the film's massive size.

"It's a staggering level of scale in the films. Sometimes we're working on the third act in this movie and I'm like, 'How are we going to pull this off?' It's so big," [Thanos] has this incredible power -- he has universe altering power if he gets his hands on the Stones -- so I think people are going to be surprised at the scale in the movie."

We're all defeinitely excited to see Thanos using the "universe-altering power" with the Infinity Stones in Infinity War. Though the Mad Titan might be dressed casually for the battle, we all know that the Marvel villain's going to put up one hell of a fight.

Avengers: Infinity War hits cinemas May 4, 2018. Its untitled sequel premieres May 3, 2019.
