Jeremy Irons Says Alfred Is A Hero With A Small ‘H’ In Justice League

Jeremy Irons' Alfred might not be one of the superheroes directly fighting against villains like Steppenwolf and Doomsday in the DC Extended Universe, but that doesn't make him any less of a hero.

With his dry wit and his intelligence, Alfred isn't just Bruce Wayne's (Ben Affleck) chief of security in Batman v Superman and Justice League, he's also the millionaire's comforter and loyal friend. In Justice League's Art of the Film book (via Screen Rant), Irons talks about how Alfred is a hero with a small h – someone who might not be at the forefront of the battle, but an individual who's role as the backup supporter is just as integral as the other heroes in the film.

"Alfred's not a superhero, but in some small, retiring way I think he could be regarded with a small ‘h' as a bit of a hero. I think he's a good calming influence, he's a good advisor. I'm not sure he would be at the forefront of the fight, but he'd be a good back up."

Batman fans already know how important Alfred is to the Dark Knight, so it doesn't come as a surprise that the DCEU's Alfred would serve as Bruce's main supporter. Even better in the DCEU is that Alfred takes on a more active role (usually the butler's just there to give advice)

Justice League is currently screening in cinemas.
