Japan's Biggest Non-PT, Non-GP Magic Tournament is Happening Right Now


The Finals, Japan's biggest non-Pro Tour, non-Grand Prix Magic: The Gathering tournament, is happening today, and you can watch it live on Twitch now.

The Finals was a long-running tournament since Magic's inception in Japan, and it crowned the top Constructed player at the end of every year. The annual tournament ended in 2011 but thanks to BigMagic, it's back this year.

The Standard tournament is being held in Akihabara, Tokyo, and players can only join by invitation. According to Simon Copp on Reddit, here are the ways players can be invited:

Be a previous winner of The Finals
Be a Pro Tour Hall of Famer
Have a bronze, silver, gold or platinum Pro Players Club level
Win a qualifying event run at local store level

Here are the prize payouts:

1st: 1,000,000¥ (~$8900)
2nd: 500,000¥ (~$4450)
3rd-4th 200,000¥ (~$1800)
5th-8th 100,000¥ (~$900)
9th-16th 30,000¥ (~$270)
