James Gunn's Response To Helming A Potential Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

James Gunn and Chris Pratt just officially wrapped principal photography for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 via Facebook video yesterday with heartfelt messages. Of course, for some fans that would mean the questions about the franchise's future.

Such is one fan's question on James Gunn's Facebook page just 10 minutes after the filmmaker wrapped production on the film. The fan asked "when do you start on v3?"

Unfortunately (you know where this is going) for the fan, Gunn's response may be too hard to read. The director replied:

I'm not yet sure whether I'm going to do Vol 3.

While it's natural for most directors to think of sequels following a movie's success, others bide their time and have to consider their options, and in Gunn's case, it's probably his overall well-being, since the director's reply to a fan who asked which of the two Guardians movies was harder to direct was:

This one was more emotionally exhausting.

This statement sounds quite concerning, but remembering Gunn's social media updates while filming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 would show how the director is passionately and emotionally involved in the making of this movie, and probably all of his movies, that he needs some recharging before beginning on another one.

This much was obvious during his speech while wrapping filming. He recently shared how the story and end credits of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 are all his. When he wrapped filming scenes with Kurt Russell, he and Pratt also shared some emotional posts.

In fact, he's very passionate about the Marvel Universe that he couldn't help responding to the backlash against that controversial Hydra twist in Captain America: Steve Rogers #1.

It's not so surprising now that the director is emotionally exhausted, and perhaps physically as well, after months of filming. It's clear though that the Guardians are not going anywhere. Gunn recently teased the group's possible cameo in Thor: Ragnarok, and Avengers: Infinity War scribes Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely also teased the Guardians' inclusion in the movie. What we're not sure of is if a third Guardians film will still be helmed by Gunn.

We're keeping our fingers crossed.
