James Gunn Talks About The MCU's Problem With Villains

Despite its success, the Marvel Cinematic Universe admittedly falls short when it comes to writing its villains. Once in a while we get characters like Loki, but for the most part, MCU villains are pretty much a one and done situation. So what gives?

During a Q&A Session on Facebook, GOTG director James Gunn explains:

"There is some messy villain plot stuff in the first movie I'd like to deal with again. There was a committee working for Marvel at the time (now defunct) who had a lot of input, and that was primarily where it ended up. It just got a little messy."

According to ScreenRant, the committee Gunn was referring to was the Marvel Creative Committee, which consisted of different key players in Marvel like Brian Michael Bendis, Dan Buckley, and Joe Quesada. The group would be in charge of overseeing every story that the MCU would come up with, and it's been said that their involvement has actually caused a bit of conflict instead of progress. Luckily, the group was disbanded in 2015, and the first Guardians of the Galaxy was one of the last projects they handled.

After Guardians, it looks like the MCU has been shaking things up with their villains. Kurt Russell's Ego the Living Planet was definitely very interesting to watch, and I loved how Michael Keaton's Vulture from Spider-Man: Homecoming wasn't your standard evil villain.

The next main villain in line will be Cate Blancett's Hela, and let's hope she brings the thunder in Thor: Ragnarok.

Thor: Ragnarok comes out Nov. 3.
