James Gunn Says Guardians of the Galaxy Was Supposed To Have A Major Star Wars Connection

Marvel fans might not know it, but Guardians of the Galaxy was supposed to have a few Star Wars references in it.

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn just recently had a Facebook Live Q&A session with his fans, and during the segment the filmmaker revealed that Star Wars was supposed to have some part in his cosmic superhero romp.

"In the screenplay that was written by Nicole Perlman before I came on to Guardians, Kevin [Feige, Marvel Studios President] had asked that Star-Lord have these Star Wars figures that he loved. And so these Star Wars figures were in the movie and played a big part in it. But I thought that didn't work for me, so I took them out."

Of course, it would have made perfect sense that Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) would have a few Star Wars figures here and there. After all, Star-Lord is a child of the 80's. Not only does the character have an obsession for the era's music but he has an affinity for its trinkets and toys. It's such a shame that Gunn decided to scrap the whole idea.

Pratt is set to reprise his role as Star-Lord in Avengers: Infinity War on May 4.
