Though Guardians of the GalaxyVol. 2 ‘s release date stands less than a month away from today, a lot of fans are eager to know director James Gunn's plans for the third film installment of the space romp superhero film franchise.
Last month the director had waved fans off by saying that he was still "figuring it all out" - a comment which left many wondering whether Gunn would leave the third Guardians of the Galaxy to some other helmsman.
Now Gunn shakes off all of that anxiety in a new post on his Facebook page announcing that he's "returning to write and direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3."
"Before I was able to honestly answer this, I needed to know it was, in my heart, what I truly felt called to do," he explained. "There is a history in Hollywood of haphazard endings to trilogies, and I didn't want to become a part of that dishonorable tradition of pretending the third one doesn't exist. I couldn't do it for the money, and I couldn't do it because it was what other people wanted me to do. I needed to do it because it was what I needed to do. I have never made choices in my career based on anything other than passion and love for the stories and characters, and I didn't want to start now."

It's true, trilogies can be difficult to handle. Not every film in a trilogy does well and most of the time the final film of a trilogy falls as haphazard and flat. Take The Dark Knight Rises, the underwhelming sequel to the powerful The Dark Knight installment in Christopher Nolan's Batman film series.
Despite the first film's success, there's no knowing whether Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 would hold the same kind of reception and close the trilogy well, but we honestly hope that each of the upcoming Guardians movies will do good.
For now all eyes are focused on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 which hits theaters on May 5, 2017.
