Wizards of the Coast Considering To Change How Magic: The Gathering Ban Announcements Happen

Wizards of the Coast may change the way they manage bannings for Magic: The Gathering cards across all formats. Right now, there are scheduled announcements for ban and restricted changes, so players will have to wait until the next scheduled announcement before WotC can decide to make any changes, but with the speed of information and the endless list of tournaments across all formats and platforms, it looks like they are considering the best way to manage them.

Over on Twitter, Senior Designer Aaron Forsythe started a poll asking fans when they want to see ban announcements happen. "With the speed of information and the never-ending list of tournaments across all formats and platforms, how to manage bannings going forward is a big topic in the office," Forsythe said.

With 9,417 votes so far, it looks like people would rather see scheduled, more frequent ban announcements.

I think it's good to have frequent scheduled announcements with the flexibility to emergency ban a card when it's critical like how "Oko, Thief of Crowns" is ruining the Standard format now.

The next scheduled MTG ban and restricted announcement will be on November 18, so expect WotC to ban "Oko, Thief of Crowns" next Monday.
