Watch Magic: The Gathering Pro Reid Duke Make His Hall of Fame 2019 Speech

Last September, Wizards of the Coast announced that American Magic: The Gathering professional player Reid Duke was voted as the sole member of the 2019 class of Magic Hall of Fame, and now you can watch the induction ceremony.

Duke, who was the only player who reached the voting threshold necessary to be elected to the Magic Hall of Fame this year, had the third highest percentage of votes ever with only Jon Finkel and Luis-Scott Vargas (LSV) that posted higher totals.

The video, uploaded on the official Magic: The Gathering esports channel, features commentary from other MTG pros like William Jensen, Kai Budde, Brian Braun-Duin, Paulo Vitor Damo da Rosa, and Gabriel Nassif.

In his Duke's acceptance speech, he praised other MTG professional players whom he learned from like Shota Yasooka, Ben Ruben, Paul Rietzl, Kai Budde, and Gabriel Nassif. "This room is filled with the people who helped me become the person who I am and helped Magic become the game that it is," Duke said. He also thanked his cousin Logan Nettles and his brother Ian Duke for the relentless support, and his teammates Owen Turtenwald and William "Huey" Jensen.

"Let's go into this new era of Magic: The Gathering with excitement for what's to come. That same joy and fulfilment that Magic gave to young Reid, let's give that to every single person who's willing to try what we have to offer. But while we're at it, let's continue to celebrate our awesome history and keep in mind that this is simply one more chapter added to a book already thirty years in the making.

Duke concluded his speech with Lee Shi Tian's message from last year's Hall of Fame induction, and that's to wish a bright future for Magic all over the world.
