The news comes just a few hours after Warner Bros. reportedly shut down the production of Fantastic Beasts 3. It's unclear at this time how long the production will be halted for The Matrix 4.

Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Ann Moss are confirmed to reprise their roles, but Hugo Weaving won't return. Lana Wachowski returns to direct the movie with a script co-written by her and her Sense8 writers Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell.

The Matrix 4 is currently set to release in theaters on May 21, 2021, but it's unclear whether the release date will be changed due to the production's delay.
