Jim Butcher's urban fantasy book series The Dresden Files is being developed for a new TV series again, and this time, it will be from Fox21 Studios.
According to Deadline, Fox21 Television Studios has optioned the rights to The Dresden Files, the long-running New York Times bestselling series of urban fantasy novels written by Jim Butcher for series development.
The Dresden Files books follow private investigator/wizard Harry Dresden, as he recounts investigations into supernatural troubles in modern-day Chicago. In the world of Dresden, supernatural creatures like vampires, werewolves, demons, faeries, and other monsters exist as well as magic. Harry Dresden is the only "consulting wizard" in the world, accepting supernatural cases form both humans and nonhumans. The Dresden Files starts off as episodic but as the series progresses, the story becomes more epic as Dresden realizes that his various cases may all be connected behind the scenes and that his role might be even greater than he is willing to admit.

Back in 2007, the Sci-Fi Channel adapted The Dresden Files for a short-lived series starring Paul Blackthorne as the wizard detective but its 12-episode run wasn't well-received by fans. Hopefully, the new one will please more fans.
Butcher is currently planning for about twenty books in the "case files" of The Dresden Files series. There are currently fifteen novels published but there's still no official release date for the next book, Peace Talks.
