The Best-Performing Magic: The Gathering Deck at Mythic Championship VI

The Magic: The Gathering Mythic Championship VI has come to an end with Ondřej Stráský winning the entire tournament with his Simic Food deck, and while it's not surprising to see that six out of Top 8 decks played "Oko, Thief of Crowns" and that 69% of the Standard metagame played the oppressive Throne of Eldraine Planeswalker card, some players may still want to know how various strategies performed throughout the 3-day tournament. With the results from the MCVI now available, we can now determine each strategies' win percentage against the field and find out what the best-performing deck in the tournament is.

The best-performing Standard deck at MCVI was Sultai Sacrifice with an overall win percentage of 67% and a positive record against every other deck in the tournament. For those who are unfamiliar with the archetype, Sultai Sacrifice is a blue/green/black deck that uses many fo the same cards that Sultai Food uses like "Oko, Thief of Crowns", "Gilded Goose", and "Once Upon a Time", but it has a sacrifice engine comprised of the cards "Cauldron Familiar", "Trail of Crumbs", and "Witch's Oven".

Here's the list of the Sultai Sacrifice deck that Sam Sherman played:

If you're wondering why not a single one of the 13 players who played Sultai Sacrifice made it to Top 8 of the event, that's because there's also a Throne of Eldraine booster draft portion of the event and they didn't do well enough to make it to Day 3. Even though the players who brought Sultai Sacrifice at the tournament did well overall, it's still difficult to recommend this deck over Food strategies because of the lack of data the small sample size provides.

While Sultai Sacrifice is technically the best-performing deck in MCVI, the three Food decks (Sultai, Simic, and Bant) were the best-performing strategies after Sultai Sacrifice, and they were also the most-played decks, making up 63% of the metagame. The Sultai version emerged with a win rate of 53%, and while there were rumors heading into the event that other non-Oko decks like Azorius Control, Jeskai Fires, and Temur Reclamation could possibly outperform Food decks, but based on results, that wasn't the case. None of those decks had a positive record overall, and they generally struggled against Food decks.

It looks like most Standard players will have to stick to Food-based strategies until the next MTG ban and restricted announcement. Oko will most likely get banned.
