Robocop Reboot Director Says New KFC Commercials Are "A Problem"

KFC

In the new KFC commercials, Peter Weller reprises his role as RoboCop but this time, he takes the role of Colonel Sanders. However, Neill Blomkamp, the director of the upcoming RoboCop Returns, has shared his opinion about the strange commercials.

When a fan tagged the director with an image of KFC's marketing campaign poster, Blomkamp shared the image with his followers with a note, "yeah this is a problem".

I can see why Blomkamp thinks this is a problem. Featuring a sci-fi character from the '80s in a fast food commercial is just absurd and it looks gimmicky.

This is RoboCop's most recent appearance in a mainstream promotion but we still don't know if KFC plans to feature the character in a long-term deal.

Watch the commercials above and below:

"Neill Blomkamp and his screenwriter Justin Rhodes have done a pass on the script we were writing on and they're doing another one. It is a slightly different concept in some ways than we were originally doing," the producer shared told HN Entertainment "I don't want to talk too much about it or somebody will call me and tell me to shut up, but we're hopeful and I think Neill really really wants to make a good RoboCop movie. His idea is that it should be the proper Verhoeven… if Verhoeven had directed a movie right after RoboCop… I think that's what he is trying to achieve and I hope he does. We'll see what happens next."

Do you agree with Blomkamp? What do you think about his remarks and the new KFC commercials? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
