Not All Magic: The Gathering Theros Gods Will Return in Theros: Beyond Death

Last week, when Wizards of the Coast announced the names of the four Magic: The Gathering sets coming next year, the company revealed that Theros: Beyond Death will be the name of the MTG expansion that will be released in Q1 of 2020, and fans are wondering if all fifteen gods introduced in 2013-2014's Theros block will return. Now, we know that not all of them will be featured in the upcoming set.

Magic head designer Mark Rosewater confirmed this on his Blogatog, saying, "We are not planning on having all of the Gods in Theros Beyond Death."

This isn't surprising since the Theros block took three MTG sets to feature all fifteen gods. Unlike the expansion lineup in 2013-2014, the expansion that will be released after Theros: Beyond Death, Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths won't be set in the same plane, so don't expect all of the original Theros gods to appear in 2020. Ikoria will be set in an entirely new plane and it will feature one of the craziest mechanics ever.

According to Wizards of the Coast, Theros: Beyond Death will return to the legendary Greek mythology-inspired world but this time, it will feature the Underworld.

Throne of Eldraine, the 82nd Magic expansion, is set to release on October 4. Prerelease events will take place on September 27 to 29. Theros: Beyond Death is set to release in Q1 of 2020.
