[Warning: This article contains major spoilers from Magic: The Gathering's War of the Spark.]
With almost all of the cards from Magic: The Gathering's new set War of the Spark already out and details from Greg Weisman's War of the Spark: Ravnica novel already leaked, many fans already know that Gideon Jura dies in the story after he makes the ultimate sacrifice to save Liliana from Nicol Bolas. Nic Kelman, head of story and entertainment at Wizards of the Coast, recently told Polygon that unlike other fictional universes, the character won't return ever.
Several cards from War of the Spark showed various points of Gideon's story such as Gideon's sacrifice and Gideon Blackblade and now, Wizards of the Coast have revealed a new card that marks the end of the heroic Planeswalker's storyline: "Heartwarming Redemption". Check it out:
"Heartwarming Redemption's" art illustrated by Howard Lyon depicts Kytheon (Gideon's original name) in the afterlife. In Greek mythology, distinguished heroes sometimes go to Elysium which is essentially a heaven-like place and it looks like this is what's going on in this art.
As for the card's ability, it looks like this card can be an effective sideboard for Jeskai Control decks against mono-red decks as it can help you gain a significant amount of life if you are holding a good amount of cards. Maybe I'll test this card in my Standard Lifegain deck featured in the new video below:
