New Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair Drop Series is Coming This Month

Last December, Wizards of the Coast launched a new kind of Magic: The Gathering product called the Secret Lair Drop Series, collectible sets that group familiar MTG cards with fantastic themes and unique new art styles.

To celebrate 2020, WotC is doing it again, and Polygon has announced that the series is called Year of the Rat, an eight-card set that will only be available on January 27, and it includes fantastic versions of some fan-favorite cards for $39.99. It brings together four different artists with their own takes on popular rat cards.

The print-on-demend series only be available for 24 hours, and it will be open to everyone. There's a limit to the number of sets each customer can purchase, but there's no limit to the number that will be produced.

All cards will be in foil, and as you can see in the images below, the cards feature rats in a Chinese New Year theme. Customers will also get a unique card sleeve for Magic: The Gathering Arena.

The first batch of the Secret LairDropSeries turned out to be a success last month.

"I can say we're happy with how it went, and yes, we're going to do more in 2020," Rosewater said on his Blogatog.

It's likely that Wizards will release more Secret Lairs later this year.
