Wizards of the Coast and Magic: The Gathering lead designer Mark Rosewater have announced a lot of major information about MTG at San Diego Comic-Con 2019. In addition to the first look at the upcoming MTG set Throne of Eldraine and their plan of bringing the Brawl format to Magic Arena, they've also revealed that they're introducing a new type of booster packs starting with the release of Throne of Eldraine.
Starting with the upcoming fall 2019 Magic set, Wizards of the Coast will offer three types of booster packs: the familiar Draft Booster that we all know, Theme Booster, and Collector Booster.
Theme Boosters will contain 35 cards and will only have cards that fit the booster's particular theme.
These Collector Boosters will be priced around $20 to $25 USD per booster, and it's aimed at players who value collecting cards. There will be more foil cards as well as other new treatments, and it will be the only booster where you can get extended-art cards.
Here are the cards guaranteed in each Collector Booster:
Number of Cards: 15 cards and 1 foil token card
Number of Versions: 1
The Throne of Eldraine Collector Booster will be available in English and Japanese, and the Thorne of Eldraine buy-a-box promotion will include one Collector Booster in addition to the normally mechanically unique promo card while supplies last.
Wizards of the Coast will also be introducing a new kind of card frame in Throne of Eldraine, and they revealed both the normal version and the Showcase version of the card but hid the rules text. Here they are:
Showcase cards are something new debuting in #MTGEldraine? Remember this art we showed earlier? Well here's what that card looks like in its normal card frame (no rules text, sorry friends), and what it will look like in its special showcase version: pic.twitter.com/haBYsfMBLg— Magic: The Gathering (@wizards_magic) July 21, 2019
