New Dimir MTG Cards From Guilds of Ravnica Surveilled

Wizards of the Coast

More Magic: The Gathering cards from the upcoming set Guilds of Ravnica have been revealed today, and a bunch of them belong in House Dimir (Blue-Black). If you've been keeping up with the set's spoilers, you probably know by now that Dimir has a new mechanic called Surveil, which is similar to the Scry mechanic but instead of putting the cards on the bottom of the library, you put them into your graveyard.

Here's the Guilds of Ravnica spotlight video for Dimir's new mechanic:

One of the Dimir cards revealed today is a split card called Connive/Concoct:

Connive lets you control a small creature while Concoct lets you Surveil 3 then lets you bring back a creature from the graveyard to the battlefield. This will probably be used in some Midrange and Control decks in Standard format.

Here's another card with Surveil:

It might be okay in Limited formats but too slow in Standard.

Dimir is all about secrecy and stealth. Here's a Flying Blue/Black creature that becomes stronger every time you Surveil.

Creeping Chill is another card that gives you an effect if it's put into the graveyard from the library, so if you Surveil and decide to send this card to your graveyard, you gain 3 life and each opponent takes 3 damage.

Streamer Amaz also shared two new Enchantments for Dimir: Enhanced Surveillance and Disinformation Campaign.

Enhanced Surveillance looks like a solid sideboard card against mill decks while Disinformation Campaign could be a part of a combo deck we haven't discovered yet. They seem too slow though so I'm not sure if these Enchantments will see play but I hope they'll be a part of a fun strategy in Standard.

What do you think about these new Dimir cards from Guildsof Ravnica? Surveil is not as powerful as the classic Dimir mechanic Transmute but it will probably be useful especially in Control strategies.

Guilds of Ravnica will feature five guilds: Selesnya (green-white), Boros (red-white), Golgari (black-green), Izzet (blue-red), and Dimir (blue-black)

The following set, Ravnica Allegiance will feature the other five guilds: Azorius (blue-white), Rakdos (black-red), Gruul (red-green), Simic (green-blue), and Orzhov (black-white).

Guilds of Ravnica will be released on October 5. Prerelease events will take place on September 29-30.
