Mono Red Aggro Strikes Back in Magic: The Gathering Grand Prix Lyon

Over the weekend, 583 Magic: The Gathering players competed at Grand Prix Lyon, France at MagicFest Lyon for their share of the $35,000 prize pool, and it looks like the Theros Beyond Death Standard metagame has evolved since Paulo Vitor Damo da Rosa's World Championship victory with Azorius Control.

Grand Prix Lyon's Top 8 consisted of:

2 Bant Ramp
2 Mono Red Aggro
2 Rakdos Sacrifice
1 Sultai Ramp
1 Temur Reclamation

ChannelFireball reports that the Top 8 consisted of mostly aggressive decks, and in a meta full of Mono Red and Rakdos Aggro, it's clear that Temur Adventures didn't do well in the tournament.

Biago Ruocco's Mono Red Aggro deck emerged as the winner, proving that aggressive archetypes can still dominate in a diverse Standard field.

2 Scorching Dragonfire (ELD) 139
2 Tibalt, Rakish Instigator (WAR) 146
2 Unchained Berserker (M20) 164

Nothing too spicy in this Mono Red list, but it's worth noting "Embereth Shieldbreaker" is an effective sideboard card against Temur Adventures as it could destroy their "Lucky Clover", an essential part of the value-generating archetype's strategy.

Congrats to Biago Ruocco for winning Grand Prix Lyon!
