MagicFest 2020 Updates: City Change & Magic: The Gathering Formats For 12 Grand Prix Revealed

CFB Events has announced some updates to the Magic: The Gathering MagicFest 2020 schedule, including a change of location and an update on the formats of the twelve Grand Prix events.

First of all, since MagicFest Bilbao was originally scheduled to be on the same weekend as the UEFA Cup Spain v Sweden (June 12-14), in the same city, driving prices for travel accomodation up, they're changing the city to Valencia, on the same weekend.

"While we know this solution won't work for everyone who was planning to attend MagicFest Bilbao, we think it will better serve the needs of the Magic community, both within Spain and throughout the world," CFB Events said in a statement.

The Magicfest organizer also shared an updated list of MagicFests currently open for registration, including the second set of events through Stransbourg, and the MTG formats for their Grand Prix events.

It's not surprising to see that there's no Legacy Grand Prix scheduled so far. The playerbase for Legacy is slowly dwindling because there seems to be more older players moving on from MTG than new players are picking up Legacy, and it's a bad format for making money, unless Wizards of the Coast start reprinting dual lands. It looks like the new Pioneer format has replaced the old format, and there's still a decent amount of Modern Grand Prix events coming this year.

I'm looking forward to going to MagicFest Charlotte and MagicFest San Jose, both of which have Standard Grand Prix events.. Hopefully, I can attend more later this year.

Which MagicFests are you planning to attend this year? What do you think about the current MagicFest 2020 schedule and formats announced so far?
