Magic: The Gathering Throne of Eldraine Will Have More Legendary Creatures Than Average

The official preview season for Magic: The Gathering's forthcoming expansion Throne of Eldraine will start later this month, with the special viewing event happening tomorrow on Twitch.tv/Magic. The new MTG set is said to be inspired by the romantic Arthurian legend of Camelot and Grimms' Fairy Tales, so fans are expecting Eldraine to feature a good amount of cards featuring legendary creatures inspired by familiar fairytale characters such as Goldilocks and the Red Riding Hood, but how many legendary creatures can we expect in the upcoming set?

On his Blogatog, Magic head designer Mark Rosewater has confirmed that Throne of Eldraine "is higher in legendary creatures than average, but well below Dominaria levels."

Dominaria featured a lot of or historic (Artifacts, Sagas, and Legendary cards). Last year's expansion also featured Legendary Sorceries and Legendary Instants. Rosewater previously confirmed that there are only three Planeswalker cards in Throne of Eldraine but expect to see a good amount of legendary creatures. Some of the creatures will probably featured in a new type of card with a unique frame called Showcase cards (as shown below).

On a separate post, Rosewater said that his first column on Throne of Eldraine will be published one week from last Monday, so expect Wizards of the Coast and Roseweater to reveal more about the upcoming set next week.

Throne of Eldraine, the 82nd Magic expansion, is set to release on October 4. Prerelease events will take place on September 27 to 29.
