Magic: The Gathering is going all-Shrek with its forthcoming expansion Throne of Eldraine, and today, Wizards of the Coast has released the official trailer for the fairy tale-themed set.
The animated trailer features a Gingerbread couple in the midst of a one-sided battle between the huntsman Garruk and a group of knights. Watch it above.
Wow! The ending of that trailer was hilariously brutal. The trailer comes with the caption on YouTube: "These fairy tales fight back! Play with new cards NOW in the Eldraine Courtside Brawl event on Magic: The Gathering Arena."
It looks like Garruk will have a major role in Throne of Eldraine. Earlier today, his card was revealed, and as we've learned in Kate Elliott's Throne of Eldraine ebook, The Wildered Quest, Garruk is mesmerized and enslaved by the fey shapeshifter planeswalker. It looks like the Gingerbreadwoman in this trailer wants revenge after seeing her lover in crumbles after Garruk ate him.
It's cool that we're seeing more quality MTG trailers this year. The War of the Spark trailer was epic and now we have this Shrek-like trailer. Hopefully, the Netflix live-action MTG show will feature this fairy tale world eventually.

Throne of Eldraine, the 82nd Magic expansion, is set to release on October 4. Prerelease events will take place on September 27 to 29.
