Magic: The Gathering Throne of Eldraine Has Card Quality Problems and "Mappable" Collector's Booster Box

Magic: The Gathering's Throne of Eldraine will officially be released this Friday, and while some fans coming from prerelease events have spoken positively about the fairy tale-themed set, others are complaining about card quality issues and "mappable" Collector's Edition booster packs.

According to a recent Reddit post, the Throne of Eldraine Collector booster box is "mappable". For those who don't know what it means, "mapping" a booster box is a trial-and-error process where booster packs are opened in order to locate where specific cards are in a box, and based on data extrapolated from various sources of opened boxes, it looks like the print run for the Throne of Eldraine Collector's Edition booster boxes are "mappable", and the Reddit post says taht "with pretty scary accuracy you can hit the ‘Foil Extended Art' packs. They are always ‘4 in a row' in a box." This means that sellers could take the more desirable packs from a mappable box and sell the rest to consumers who are unaware

Rudy of the Alpha Investments YouTube channel also revealed that the Throne of Eldraine Collector's Edition packs are "mappable".

Mike Hatcher, known as The Magic Historian on Youtube, has released a video detailing issues with card quality in Throne of Eldraine Collector's booster packs. According to Hatcher, some cards found in the Collector's boosters are oversized and have improper corners.

Over on Reddit, someone shared a photo that shows a stack of cards confirming that the cards from the Throne of Eldraine Collector's packs are cut in a way that denotes that they are misshaped and oversized.

These Collector's Edition issues are putting a bad spin on interactions with local game stores but thankfully, there are still Collector's Edition boxes without these print run issues. Hopefully, Wizards of the Coast will improve the print quality for future Collector's Edition products.

Throne of Eldraine, the 82nd Magic expansion, is set to release on October 4. It's now available on Magic Arena.
