Magic: The Gathering Pro Player Andrew Cuneo Makes It Top 8 at MCVI and Sets A Record

American Magic: The Gathering professional player Andrew Cuneo made it to Top 8 of this weekend's Mythic Championship VI with his Selesnya (Green/White) Adventures deck, setting the record for the longest gap between Top 8s in MTG's history since his last Pro Tour Top 8 was in 2001, PT New York.

Cuneo was one of the two MTG players who made it to Top 8 without using "Oko, Thief of Crowns". The other player was Elli Krassis, who's playing Golgari Adventure, but Cuneo is the only one in the Top 8 playing Selesnya Adventure, a deck that focuses on getting an army of creatures on the board while gaining card advantage with "Edgewall Inkeeper" and Adventure creatures. The deck uses "March of the Multitudes" to populate the board, and "Venerated Loxodon" and "Unbreakable Formation" help buff up the creatures to help penetrate more damage during combat.

The last time Cuneo made Top 8 at the Pro Tour was in September 2001, at PT New York, and the format was Team Limited.

MTG Senior Designer Aaron Forsythe, Cuneo's former teammate, took it to Twitter to express his joy for Andrew's Top 8 finish.

Cuneo, one of the 32 players of the 2019 Magic Pro League, is known as an important deckbuilder, in particular when it comes to Control decks, and he's largely attributed to the invention of Draw-Go decks.

Congrats for making Top 8 and setting the record, Andrew Cuneo!

The Top 8 players of the Mythic Championship VI are competing now at Richmond, Virginia. You can watch it live on Twitch.tv/magic.
