Magic: The Gathering Mythic Championship V Decklists Publicly Revealed

At this week's Mythic Championship V, 68 Magic: The Gathering players from across the world will compete for a their share of $750,000 prize pool at Long Beach, California, at Thunder studios. The format will be Traditional Best-of-Three Standard, and Wizards of the Coast has already revealed the decklists for each player.

Here's what we know about the diversity of decks at Mythic Championship V:

Golos/ Field of Ruin Decks

Number of decks between Bant Golos, Four-Color Golos, and Golos Fires: 28

Decks that run "Golos, Tireless Pilgrim" and "Field of the Dead" are dominating the format. Whether it's Bant Golos, Four-Color Golas, or Golos Fires, this archetype aims to gain card advantage while populating the board with zombie tokens. Just in case you're not familiar to this strategy, you can watch my Bant Golos video below:

MTG players are already expecting that Golos decks will dominate the Standard meta at Mythic Championship V, and many are even speculating that Wizards of the Coast moved the ban & restricted announcement to an earlier date so that they can ban "Field of the Dead" or Golos sooner. This is definitely the deck-to-beat at the Mythic Championship V, and other decks are probably built with the aim to take it down.

Food

Number of decks between Bant Food and Simic Food: 14

There's also a good amount of decks that are focused on using the Food mechanic from Throne of Eldraine, and they are centered around "Oko, Thief of Crowns" and "Gilded Goose" to build a strong position on the board, and some builds run "Questing Beast" which can be played by Turn-3 thanks to "Gilded Goose". This deck seems to be a great contender against the Golos decks because it aims to put out some big threats before the Golos decks can unleash Golos or make an army of zombies.

Adventure

Number of decks between Golgari and Selenya: 9

Another fun mechanic from the latest MTG set Throne of Eldraine is Adventure, and there's a good number of players running a deck that focuses on this innovative mechanic. Some are running Selensya (Green/White) with "Faerie Guidemother", "Giant Killer", and "Shepherd of the Flock" while the Golgari (Green/Black) builds are running "The Great Henge" to gain card advantage while playing creature spells. These decks look innovative and fun to play but I'm still not sure how they can beat the Golos decks.

Bant Ramp

Number of players playing Bant Ramp: 5

If there's a breakout Standard deck at the Mythic Championship V, it would probably be this Bant Ramp deck that players like Stansilav Cifka (who we recently wrote about), Ondrej Strasky, and Martin Juza are playing. Unlike the Golos decks, this build doesn't not run "Field of the Dead" or "Golos, Tireless Pilgrim; instead, this decks aims to ramp up mana fast with "Nissa, Who Shakes The World" and various mana dorks to play big spells like "Hydroid Krasis" and "Agent of Treachery" as early as possible while eliminating problematic threats with "Deputy of Detention". The archtype also runs "Oko, Thief of Crowns" and "Teferi Time Raveler".

Cifka and his team are known for creating fresh brews that could surprise the meta, and I'm looking forward to see how this deck performs at the Mythic Championship V.

Mardu Knights

Number of players running Mardu Knights: 3

Pro players Ben Stark, Ken Yukuhiro, and Eric Froehlich decided to play a more aggressive tribal build called Mardu Knights. Although all three players have mostly knight creatures in their decks, it's interesting that Yukuhiro's build runs "Rotting Regisaur" to unleash a big threat on the board early in the game.

Other players are playing Mono-Red Cavalcade, Rakdos Sacrifice, Jeskai Fires, Gruul Aggro, and Jund Midrange.

The Mythic Championship V will take place Oct. 18 to 20, and you can watch it live at Twitch.tv/Magic.
