Mythic Champion VII is kicking off this Friday, and Wizards of the Coast has revealed the current Standard metagame for this weekend's Magic: The Gathering Arena tournament. With the recent bans of "Oko, Thief of Crowns" and "Once Upon A Time" in Standard recently, the meta has changed significantly, and it looks more balanced than MCVI.
Wizards of the Coast has released the MCVII metagame on the official MTG website, and it looks like a clear balance has been achieved, so expect to see some exciting matches in this three-day tournament.
Right now, the most common deck composition is the Jeskai Fires archetype, which makes up 17.9% of the field.
The Jund Sacrifice archetype makes up 13.4% of the field, and Golgari Adventure at 11.9% but what's more interesting is that the Rogue decks used by only one or two players make up 13.4% of the metagame.
Two of those Rogue decks are Five-Color Fires played by Japanese pros Shota Yasooka and Ken Yukuhiro. They can use "Fires of Invention" as a mana fixer to play powerful cards. However, their decklists are not exactly the same. Yukuhiro registered a list with "Niv-Mizzet Reborn" while Yasooka relies on "Golos, Tireless Pilgrim". Yukuhiro also uses more mana dorks like "Gilded Goose" and "Paradise Druid" to get the color of mana he needs to cast his bigger spells while Yasooka runs "Beanstalk Giant" as a mana fixer and ramp card instead. Yukuhiro is also running three copies of "Escape to the Wilds" while Yasooka is more focused on ramping to play "Agent of Treachery". I'm excited to see their decks in action. I've been a huge fan of both Japanese players, and I'm rooting for them to win.

While Jeskai Fires is the most dominant archetype, which uses primarily red and white colors, Forest (a land that produces green mana) is the most used card overall, so that means the most common archetype won't dominate MCVII enough to name any one deck the best. With 32 Magic Pro League members and 35 Challengers from around the world, it's anyone's game with this tournament's incredibly diverse meta.
The Mythic Championship VII will take place at Thunder Studios in Long Beach, California on December 6-8. The format of the three-day Magic Arena tournament is Traditional Best-of-Three Constructed Standard.
