Magic: The Gathering Mythic Championship & Mythic Championship Qualifiers Revealed

Wizards of the Coast

Wizards of the Coast are changing the competitive scene of Magic: The Gathering in a big way next year. Not only is the popular trading card game entering the esports business in a way, but new competitive events will be added while major tournaments like the Pro Tour Qualifiers, Nationals, and World Magic Cup are being scrapped. We already know that Pro Tours will be called Mythic Championships, and today, Wizards of the Coast have revealed more details about the changes as well as the two types of Mythic Championship Qualifiers.

Here's the schedule for the four tabletop Mythic Championships:

Cleveland, Ohio, United States, February 22–24, 2019
London, United Kingdom, April 26–28, 2019
Barcelona, Spain, July 26–28, 2019
Richmond, Virginia, United States, November 8–10, 2019

Here are the details for the Mythic Championship Qualifier Invite-Only:

The Mythic Championship Qualifier Open will be open to the public with no attendance cap and will be hosted by professional event organizes that Wizards will choose, and some MCQ Opens will award multiple Championship berths.

They went on to explain that if a player wins their Mythic Championship berth via MagicFest, they'll typically qualify for a Mythic Championship in the same region in which they qualified, rather than whichever Mythic Championship happens to be next chronologically.
