Magic: The Gathering Head Designer Teases Big Reveals at SDCC 2019

Wizards of the Coast will host a panel for Magic: The Gathering at this year's San Diego Comic-Con (July 18-21) and fans of the popular card game would not want to miss what they will announce at the convention. Today, MTG Head Designer Mark Rosewater has teased that we won't just be getting the name of the upcoming Magic Fall 2019 set code-named "Archery".

"You'll be getting more than just the name," Rosewater said on his Blogatog. "If you're at SDCC, come to the Magic panel. I promise you won't be disappointed.

Last month, Rosewater revealed that the upcoming set will be announced at this year's SDCC but it looks like Wizards of the Coast is planning to reveal more than just the name of the upcoming Magic set. All the company revealed so far is that the new expansion will be set in a new plane. Here's what Rosewater said about the new set back in March:

"After War of the Spark is Core Set 2020. Then in October, we're going to be visiting a brand-new plane. I can't tell you anything about it yet as we're a little too far out from it, but I can say it's a set I've been trying to get us to do for over a decade, and I'm really excited about how it turned out."

We also know that the release date for the fall set will be on October 4, 2019. Prerelease events will be held on September 28-29; Draft Weekend: October 5-6. The release of "Archery" will also mark the rotation of the Standard format, when Ixalan, Rivals of Ixalan, Dominaria, and Core Set 2019 will rotate out of Standard.

Who knows? Maybe they will also reveal other upcoming Magic products other than the Fall 2019 set but right now, it's clear that the Magic panel at SDCC is looking promising for fans who are excited to find out what the upcoming set is about.

I'm excited to find out the theme for the Fall set's world. YouTuber TheFlavorofCardboard has released a video speculating the world to be Wild West-themed. You can watch the video below:

Core Set 2020 is set to be released on July 12, 2019. Core Set 2020 is also coming to Magic Arenaon July 2, with the preorder bundle for the set available now. The Core Set 2020 bundle in Arena includes a mythic rare Planeswalker card for Chandra as a bonus.
