Magic: The Gathering Head Designer Says This Planeswalker is More Likely To Return Than Venser

Many Magic: The Gathering fans care about what the future holds for its epic lore or whether certain iconic characters will make a return to the story and in card form even if they're not alive, but according to Magic Head Designer Mark Rosewater, one of the dead ones might return soon, and more likely than the artificer Venser.

When a fan asked Rosewater how likely Urza will return in a new Magic set compared to Venser's chance, here's his reply on his Blogatog page: "In a Standard-legal set, probably a 9. Him being dead makes it tricky."

For those who are not familiar with Magic's lore back in the day, Urza died with Gerard after activating the Legacy Weapon that successfully killed Yawgmoth in Dominaria. Venser also died when he sacrificed himself to save Karn from the Phyrexians and give his Planeswalker spark to him. Both characters may be dead but in Magic's multiverse, anything is possible.

The last time Urza was depicted in a card was in the joke Magic set Unstable but it's just his head shown in the artwork, and Unstable is probably not a part of Magic's official story canon.

If Wizards of the Coast decides to print a new Urza card in the future, it'll most likely be a Planeswalker card with insane abilities. He's kind of like the Dumbledore of MTG and it's good to know that he's more likely to return than Venser.
