Magic: The Gathering Head Designer Says He's Super Excited For 3 New Magic Sets Coming This Year

Magic: The Gathering should get hyped for the upcoming Magic products this year. Now, Magic head designer Mark Rosewater is expressing his excitement for the new Magic sets that will be released in 2019.

Over on Twitter, Rosewater said that he's "extra excited" for the three unannounced Magic sets coming this year.

"This time last year I was looking forward to the new year because there was a set I was extra excited for you all to see (#mtgdom)," Rosewater tweeted. "This year there's three (none of which you know about yet) that I'm extra excited for you all to see. It's going to be an awesome year!"

Rosewater's words mean a lot to the community so I'm excited to see what's coming this year. So far, we only know of Ravnica Allegiance, which comes out this month, and another untitled Ravnica set coming out this spring, so it's likely that it's one of the three Magic sets Rosewater is extra excited for. The fact that he mentioned how he felt the same for last year's Dominaria set suggests that the upcoming sets could also be a return to a plane that Magic fans are familiar with. Maybe we'll see a return to Lorwyn or Kamigawa. Who knows? I just can't wait to see what he's excited about.

His latest tweet is echoing what he said last week: "In my twenty-three years working on the game, I have never been more excited for a suite of Magic products than I am for 2019. Magic fans are in for an amazing year!"

Pre-release events for Ravnica Allegiance will take place on January 19, 2019; the set will officially be released on January 25.
