Magic: The Gathering Head Designer Reveals Breakdown of 37 Planeswalkers in War of The Spark

Magic: The Gathering fans already know that there will be 37 Planeswalker cards in the upcoming set War of the Spark and some of them have already been revealed, but some are still wondering how many of those cards are mythic rares, rares, or uncommon, or how many are there for each color. Thankfully, Magic head designer Mark Rosewater has shared a breakdown of the Planeswalkers in War of the Spark.

Over on his Blogatog, Rosewater revealed that there are only 3 mythic rare Planeswalkers, and he also revealed the number of Planeswalkers for each rarity.

Here's Rosewater's breakdown of the Planeswalkers in War of the Spark:

There are twenty uncommon planeswalkers. Two five-card monocolor cycles and one ten-card hybrid cycle.
There are thirteen rare planeswalkers. Two colorless, five monocolored and six two-colored.
There are three mythic rare planeswalkers. Two monocolored and one three-colored.
There is one Buy-a-Box planeswalker. He is two-colored.
This is all off the top of my head, so I could be slightly off on something, but I think I have it right.

The revelation of the set's buy-a-box promo clears up the confusion about the 36 or 37 actual count. I'm excited to see how these Planeswalker cards will interact in Limited formats. The power levels look insane. The amount of new Planeswalkers will also probably change Standard in a major way.

War of the Spark will be released on May 3, 2019. It's the third of a series of consecutive sets set in Ravnica and it will focus on the epic war between Nicol Bolas and the Gatewatch
