Magic: The Gathering Head Designer Confirms Change to Foil Frequency

Magic: The Gathering is getting some changes with the release of the new Core Set 2020 set, and one of them is the change of foil frequency in booster packs. MTG Head Designer Mark Rosewater recently confirmed on Twitter that one in three boosters, on average, has a foil card.

Last month, Wizards of the Coast revealed 10 changes coming with the release of Core Set 2020, and they revealed that the set will have more MTG foil cards. Compared to War of the Spark's 1:67 (Premium card odds), Core Set 2020 will be 1:45. If you don't want to do the math, Rosewater's tweet sums it up well, so expect to see more foil cards in Core Set 2020 booster packs.

Core Set 2020 is set to be released on July 12, 2019. Core Set 2020 is also coming to Magic Arenaon July 2, with the preorder bundle for the set available now. The Core Set 2020 bundle in Arena includes a mythic rare Planeswalker card for Chandra as a bonus. Pre-release events will be held from July 5 to July 7.
