Magic: The Gathering Event Disrupted After SUV Hits Game Shop

An Indianapolis-based game store may need to find a new venue to host this weekend's Magic: The Gathering Prerelease events for the new set Theros Beyond Death.

Indystar reports that an SUV slammed into the side of Midwest Gamez's building.

34-year-old Jeremy Stephens has operated Midwest Gamez in a strip mall in the 6000 block of West Washington Street in Indinapolis, Indiana since January 2017.

According to the report by Indystar, Stephens and three other people were playing Magic: The Gathering in the shop about 3:10 p.m. when the car slammed through the wall about 15 feet away. Stephens told the news outlet that conrete in the wall went flying across the store, and narrowly missed one of the teens playing Magic.

Stephens spent $5,000 to prepare for the Prerelease event, for Theros Beyond Death this weekend, the report says. He purchased 64 kits for people to play on Friday night but now, he would need to find an alternative venue for the vent or he'll have to cancel it.

"As of right now, I don't have a safe building to have these people in, you know, where they can stay warm and play these games all night," Stephens told IndyStar. "So, it's quite frustrating."

According to Stephens, he saw a woman begin to leave the scene before returning to get a bag from the vehicle, and Indystar said that one of the people inside the shop was able to record a video clip that may help investigators identify her.

Thankfully, no one was injured.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police already located and impounded the suspect's 2008 Buick Enclave, and they're still investigating.

Midwest Gamez's Facebook page recently shared an update saying that the woman hasn't been caught yet, but her family shared some information about her. He also confirmed that all events are still happening this weekend.

Theros Beyond Death, the 83rd Magic: The Gathering expansion, is set to release on January 24, 2020. Prerelease events will take place on January 17-19.
