Magic: The Gathering Designer Reveals Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths Card Designs That Didn't Make It

Magic: The Gathering players from around the world are already enjoying the latest set Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths online via Magic: The Gathering Arena and Magic Online. The new monster world-focused expansion is awesomely fun as it features some of the card game's most innovative mecahnics, Godzilla alternate versions, the Sharknado enchantment, and its light tri-color themes. However, just like the case of other Magic sets, there are some card designs that Wizards of the Coast didn't end up in print, and Senior Magic Designer Gavin Verhey recently revealed a few of those cards.

Over on his Twitter account, Verhey shared a new episode of Good Morning Magic in which he talked about the Ikoria card he designed as well as some card designs that didn't make it to print. First of all, Verhey explains how many card designs are scrapped during development of a Magic set, then he talked about how he designed "Lavabrink Venturer", calling it a "Wild Rare" because of its splashy and unusual design, but its final version turned out to be different from its initial design.

Verhey reveals some interesting card designs like "Springtime", a green Sorcery spell that lets every player put any number of land cards from their hand onto the battlefield. There's also a white Enchantment that can exchange life totals to target opponent. There's also a weak card called "Mutating Contagion" with the new Mutate mechanic that could return Mutating to another creature when it dies.

Then there's a Planeswalker that lets the player become it, and if you think it sounds familiar, it's one of the Playtest cards featured from the Mystery Booster product.
