Magic: The Gathering Arena Will Eventually Add Pioneer Format & 8-Person Draft

Wizards of the Coast has big plans for Magic: The Gathering Arena this year. Not only are the developers planning to improve the free-to-play game's social features but they are also planning to add the non-rotating Pioneer format, 8-person draft, and Cube drafting.

In the newly-released State of the Game video for MTG Arena, Magic Arena Game Director Jay Parker and Community Manager Megan O'Malley have announced the new features their team are planning to add on MTG Arena in 2020.

Before they revealed the major changes to the game, the developers will work on adding Friends Messaging, macOS compatibility, an updated tutorial, and Historic Anthology II.

And the big changes players can't wait to see added on Arena are listed below: Pioneer Remasters, 8-person draft, Cube drafting, friend deck sharing, and a rework of the game's play blade.

"We've also added Pioneer Set Remasters onto the in-concept list, which will include the Amonkhet remaster, as well the additional sets we're working in conjunction with Magic R&D to help bring the most relevant Pioneer cards to MTG Arena," Wizards said. "And as we continue to expand the available formats and ways to play, we've started to concept out a rework to our play blade to make organizing and finding these events easier."

I can't wait to see them add these new features on MTG Arena. Many players like me would rather draft with real people than bots, and I would rather play Pioneer (Return to Ravnica and forward) than Historic (non-rotating format exclusive Arena). And having Cube in Arena will surely bring more fun to the game.
