Magic: The Gathering Arena Rolls Back Decisions on New Changes

Wizards of the Coast has decided to roll back on some of the changes they have been planning of making for Magic: The Gathering Arena. This comes after public backlash, with fans stating that Wizards was only doing so out of corporate greed.

In Wizards of the Coast's previous plan to implement the non-rotating Historic format for MTG Arena, Wizards originally decided to make each Historic card cost two rather than one Wildcard. Following the outcry from MTG consumers, Wizards rescinded the decision it so redemption for all rotated cards will be 1:1. This seems to reflect what the former Magic Online employee said about the company's pricing tactics.

In addition to rolling back the wildcard decision, Wizards also announced that Historic play will not count towards daily or weekly quests, but will still progress any active quests. Also, the they are also planning to add all forms of bundles for Historic cards instead of the original plan of having only 45-card bundles.

As you can see in the chart above, the original plan was to have 15-20 Historic cards added in November through a paid event, but according to the update, it seems that Wizards of the Coast is still trying to figure out how to implement Historic card acquisition into Arena's interface. It's expected that Historic cards will be acquired in a different way than Standard cards.

Throne of Eldraine is set to release in Magic Arena on September 26, and with its inclusion, the following sets will rotate out: Ixalan, Rivals of Ixalan, Core Set 2019, and Dominaria.

We will be featuring a Throne of Eldraine early access event on our Youtube channel soon, so look forward to it.
