Magic: The Gathering Arena Quick Drafts Are Coming To Stores

Wizards of the Coast

Magic: The Gathering Arena is known for its quick best-of-one games, and it looks like Wizards of the Coast are taking the format to game stores.

Wizards of the Coast are inviting a small number of top-performing stores to playtest quick drafts just like the best-of-one matches in Magic Arena. A message from Wizards of the Coast's In-Store Specialist Jacob Nourigat was sent to select members of the Wizards Play Network, inviting stores to try the "new" format. The email also summed up the rules of Quick Draft: matches are single-game, rounds are 20-minutes long instead of 50, limit rounds to 5 or 6 (instead of 3 or 4), and players get a "free" mulligan. This is a fun format in Arena and players do quick drafts because it's one of the easiest methods to get the rares you need but I'm not sure if the experience will be as fun in the real world.

Pre-release events for Ravnica Allegiance will take place on January 19, 2019; the set will officially be released on January 25.
