This month, Magic: The Gathering Arena is launching its non-rotating format called Historic, and they're adding 20 new cards for the format with the November update. The digital-first format will feature all the cards available on Magic Arena.

WotC went on to say that they are planning to release new cards for the Historic format every quarter.

The new non-rotating Historic format will launch on Arena with the November 21 update, and players can craft these 20 cards using wildcards at 1:1 rate or you can purchase a whole set of all 20 cards (80 cards total) for 3,400 gems.

There will be a Historic Launch event that will go with the new update on November 21-25, and the entry costs are 200 gems or 1,000 gold. You can play as many best-of-one games as you want, and you can earn cosmetic rewards for five of the new Anthology cards coming to the free-to-play game.

There will also be a Best-of-Three Ranked Historic queue that will open on November 21, and will run through January 15 (the day before the release of Theros Beyond Death). Progress in this queue will affect players' Constructed rank, just like Standard, so they can qualify for MCQs through Historic play.

There will also be a major Historic tournament before the release of Theros Beyond Death, and after Theros Beyond Death comes out on Arena, there will be a Best-of-Three Historic event for players to join.

Historic will always be playable in the Play queue. The casual Historic play will be Best-of-One while the ranked queue and the evergreen event will be Best-of-Three.
