Magic: The Gathering Altered Spirited Away Steam Vents Sells For $1,525

Some Magic: The Gathering players are willing to pay a lot of money to get high-quality altered MTG cards that you won't find in any booster pack, and one fan just spent $1,525 on eBay to acquire a beautifully-painted "Steam Vents" featuring Studio Ghibli's famous classic Spirited Away.

The anime-inspired "Steam Vents" was created by Klug Alters, who has a great track record at selling expensive alternate-art MTG cards. According to the eBay description, the original card is from Return to Ravnica, and it was hand-painted using acrylic paints and sealed with a protective acrylic spray. The art features Yubaba's iconic bathhouse from Hayao Miyazaki's Oscar-winning animated classic, and the painting looks great. The details look incredible and you won't find any messy parts in this fantastic alter. Plus, I can see why a bathouse could be likened with "Steam Vents" so I think this is one of the best MTG alters I've seen.

Earlier this year, Klug Alters sold an altered Ulamog on eBay for $1,025 but this Spirited Away alter is definitely worth more thanks to its high quality. The most expensive version of "Steam Vents" you can get from a booster pack right now is the Zendikar Expedition version which is currently worth $120 USD, so it's amazing how Klug's alternate painted version was sold more than ten times that.
