Magic Online is Getting A New Play Lobby Update & Deck Viewer With The Launch of Modern Horizons

Wizards of the Coast

The upcoming straight-to-Modern Magic: The Gathering set Modern Horizons is heading to Magic Online next month and fans can start playing Modern Horizons events starting on June 6, and with its launch, the client is also getting a new Play Lobby.

Wizards of the Coast have revealed the new Play Lobby that puts a focus on formats over event types. Instead of selecting a bunch of filters and cycling through a long list of event types, players will be able to just click the new Constructed lobby, choose Modern, and the Play Lobby will show everything available for Modern, from Premier Events to Open Play matches. The Constructed format options include Standard, Modern, Legacy, Vintage, Pauper, and Commander (which includes Commander, 1v1 Commander, and Brawl), and Specialty (which includes Momir, freeform, and everything else).

For Limited formats, you can select the new Limited lobby and choose what kind of play you'd like, such as Sealed Deck or Draft, and then you'll see a selection of all events that match that play style. There is also a separate Premier Events tab to make it easier for players to find the Magic Online Championship Series events and the Mythic Championship Qualifier Preliminaries.

The latest update will also add a new deck viewer that lets players view contents of the currently selected deck so you know what you're playing before you join an event or match. You don't need to go back to your Collection scene to check if you have a particular card. You can also view your deck if you're changing your deck before you join an event without leaving the deck selector. This viewer is useful in Limited events where you can build multiple decks.

You can check the other changes in the upcoming update for Magic Onlinehere.

Modern Horizons will be released on June 14. Prerelease events will take place on June 8 and 9. The prerelease events will be Draft, not Sealed. Modern Horizons events on Magic Online start on June 6.
