This year's San Diego Comic-Con will have an exciting panel for the upcoming Magic: The Gathering set Throne of Eldraine where MTG Head Designer Mark Rosewater will announce new details about the expansion previously code-named "Archery" but it looks like he will also be announcing some major changes for the popular card game.
When a fan questioned the decision to announce Throne of Eldraine at SDCC, Rosewater took it to his Blogatog to explain why Wizards of the Coast decided to announce the upcoming Magic set at the expansion despite the convention's constraints from streaming the panel. He also mentioned that there will be "changes" that he'll explain in more detail in the article that will be released shortly after the panel.
"I realized that I was conveying a lot of information, so I specifically wrote an article that could be released with it (technically shortly after), so that everyone can be walked through the changes in even more detail than the panel could handle," Rosewater wrote. "I know it’s easy to want the ideal, but a lot of making things work is finding the best answer given all the constraints you’re working with. So in short, streaming it simply wasn’t an option."
It sounds like the Magic: The Gathering panel at SDCC will not just be about Throne of Eldraine. It's likely that Wizards of the Coast might announce changes in competitive tournaments, rules, or upcoming products.
We won't have to wait for too long until we find out but it's still hard to contain the hype. What do you think? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
